Biography
Canadian
jazz composer/pianist Stacie McGregor began studying piano at the
age of six and
as a twelve year old, received early recognition as a accomplished
composer when she was
awarded third place in "The Yamaha National Song Writing Contest".
Originally from
Winnipeg, musical studies brought her to Toronto which has since become
home. She has
performed with a variety of recording and touring acts encompassing
many genres of music.
A consistently expressive player she received a Juno award in 1999
for her performance on
the "Best World Music" recording (Omnisource by Madagascar
Slim).
Her debut CD titled "Straight Up" has received international
recognition charting in more than 20
countries and has been featured on CBC's nationally syndicated
show "Jazz Beat with Katie
Malloch". The song "Top Cat" from the same album was
selected as a finalist in the Jazz Category
of the 2004 USA Songwriting Competition.
In 2005 Stacie was nominated for the General Motors Grand Jazz Award
and for the Étoiles Galaxie Award
at the Festival Internation de Jazz de Montreal (The Montreal Jazz Festival).
Her
most recent solo performance was for former president
Bill Clinton at The Toronto Centre For The Performing Arts.
Stacie latest release is a unique collaboration funded by The Ontario
Art's Council titled "Swift", a project that she co-led
with the late great saxophonist, educator Billy Robinson that features
compositions from their respective songbooks.
They are joined on the recording with two veteran New York based musicians,
bassist Curtis Lundy and the Billy Hart on drums.
