Canadian jazz composer/pianist Stacie McGregor began studying piano at the age of six. She received early recognition as a composer being awarded third place in "The Yamaha National Song Writing Contest" at the age of twelve. A consistently expressive player she received a Juno Award in 1999 (The Canadian equivilent of a Grammy) for her performance on the "Best World Music" recording of that year, "Omnisource" by Madagascar Slim.
Her debut album titled "Straight Up" received international recognition charting in more than 20 countries. The song "Top Cat" from the same recording was selected as a finalist in the Jazz Category of the 2004 USA Songwriting Competition.
In 2006 she collaborated with saxophonist Billy Robinson (Charles Mingus, Freddie Hubbard, Archie Shepp) on a quartet album with special guests Curtis Lundy on bass and Billy Hart on drums titled “"Swift” " which featured compositions from both McGregor’'s and Robinson'’s songbooks.
In 2007 she performed with her quintet as a main stage act at the Montreal Jazz Festival receiving her 2nd nomination for the General Motors Grand Jazz Award and the Galaxie Rising Star Award of the CBC.
Over the past two years she has been recording and touring as a member of 2008 Juno Award winner Brandi Disterheft’'s band and most recently has become a member of Archie Alleyne’'s hard-bop band Kollage.
